A Grief Observed

Title: A Grief Observed

Author: C.S. Lewis

Reading Goal: To be read in the month of November.

Rating:****

Review: I only gave this book four stars because grief is a very personal thing. I applaud Lewis for allowing us to peer in his soul during such a difficult time. I decided in late September when I purchased this book I would read it in November, to help me come to terms with the death of a friend five years ago. Five years. Wow, that seems like such a long time, yet when I recall those days, they are more clear than the last week. God has many mysterious ways, and the first of November came and went too quickly for me to start my goal. Within the first week, however, my closest friend in my family died. Just like that. Out of nowhere, a perfectly healthy 27-year-old went to be with the Lord. I waited about another week before I started reading, and finished the book in about two days. It is a fast read, and needs to be read quickly. I always enjoy reading Lewis, and this is no exception. Grief is something we all must learn to deal with, and each expierence we have with it will be new.

Bad Girls of the Bible

Author: Liz Curtis Higgs

Reading Goal: 2 chapters a day

Started: May 2008

Finished: November 15

Rating: *****

Summary: Okay, okay, I took my sweet time with this one. Liz is an amazing author, though. She really draws you into the girls' lives. I saw a bit of myself in most of the girls, and know someone who fits the rest. If you're bad for a moment, bad for a lifetime or bad for a while, you'll love this book.
